A 51-YEAR-OLD Anaheim man – the JV girls basketball coach at Garden Grove High – was arrested Monday afternoon.
The girls’ junior varsity basketball coach at Garden Grove High School was arrested Monday afternoon for allegedly asking a 15-year-old girl to send “provocative photos” of herself to him.
According to Lt. Carl Whitney of the Garden Grove Police Department, Michael Engelmann, 51, of Anaheim, was arrested by GGPD detectives at the Stanford Avenue campus at 1:30 p.m. He was booked into Orange County Jail in Santa Ana on a felony count of communicating with a minor to elicit child pornography.
School and district officials were notified of the incident, according to Lt. Whitney, and Engelmann was immediately placed on leave by the Garden Grove Unified School District.
Detectives conducted an investigation, which, they say, revealed that the suspect had been using social media to communicate with the girl and request the images. The investigation is continuing, said Lt. Whitney.
