H. Beach man dies after freeway incident
A 39-year-old Huntington Beach man died Monday in an incident in which he reportedly crashed his vehicle into other autos on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Rosemead, and then attacked vehicles on foot.
The California Highway Patrol identified the man as Ramon Lopez. The incident began around 11:15 a.m. when a GMC Safari van was seen being driven erratically, striking two other vehicles.
With his vehicle disabled, the suspect grabbed a tire iron and began attacking cars, which had slowed. Civilians tackled him, and when an ambulance arrived, Lopez “appeared unresponsive,” according to the CHP. He was taken to County-USC Medical Center where he was pronounced dead from a heart attack just before noon.
