A 33-YEAR-OLD homeless man was arrested early Friday morning on a charge of sexually assaulting a an elderly woman in her home (Shutterstock).

A homeless man was arrested early Friday morning on a charge of sexually assaulting a disabled elderly woman in her Garden Grove home.

According to Lt. Carl Whitney of the GGPD, officers were called to a residence in the 8500 block of Lampson Avenue shortly after 1:30 a.m. regarding the incident. Arriving officers found the suspect – a 33-year-old homeless man from Garden Grove – detained by family members.

The suspect had allegedly entered the home and sexually assaulted the woman, who was disabled and dependent. A family member was awakened by noises coming from the woman’s room, saw the attack and called for help.

Trying to flee, the suspect battled family members who eventually subdued him and held him in the backyard. According to police, the suspect was not known to the victim or family. He was arrested and booked into Orange County Jail on a charge of sexual assault.
