The CIF-SS girls basketball preseason watchlist is out. Local teams listed are:
- Division 2AA: Orangewood.
- Division 3A: Marina.
- Division 4AA: La Quinta, Santiago.
And here’s the boys’ watchlist …
- Division 3A: Pacifica
- Division 4A: Loara.
- Division 5AA: Bolsa Grande.

We’re up to our hip pads in CIF-SS playoff news and action in football, volleyball, water polo are more. Here’s the rundown for teams serving the communities of Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster. A lot of big games and matches this week.
FOOTBALL
Four local teams are involved in quarterfinal games on Friday at 7 p.m. Information on locations will be added as we receive it.
Division 3: Edison (9-2) at La Habra (9-2).
Division 10: Orange (10-1) at J.W. North (10-1).
Division 11: Ontario Christian (9-2) at Marina (9-2) at Boswell Field.
Division 14: Loara (9-2) at Sierra Vista (6-5).
BOYS WATER POLO
Two local teams are involved in semifinal contests, both on Wednesday.
Division 1: Harvard-Westlake at Huntington Beach at Woollett Aquatic Center in Irvine, 7 p.m.
Division 4: JSerra vs. Pacifica at Ocean View High School, 3 p.m.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Garden Grove High’s team lost its Division 7 semifinal match on Saturday to Webb Schools 3-2. The Argonauts won the first game 25-14, then lost the next two by scores of 25-21 and 25-18. They tied it up in the fourth game with a 25-12 win, but lost the fifth 15-7.
The red-and-white finished the season with a 28-10 record.
CROSS COUNTRY
Ocean View High’s boys cross country team is the sole local entry in the CIF-SS final poll. The Seahawks are ranked 11th in Division 11.
GIRLS TENNIS
Huntington Beach defeated Troy 10-8 on Monday in the Division 1 quarterfinals and will face Corona del Mar in a semifinal showdown on Wednesday.
