Corona cases and deaths spike

The two biggest cities in Orange County – by population – showed the biggest jumps in Tuesday’s report on coronavirus’ effect on the area.

Santa Ana – which has 1939 confirmed cases in today’s tally – showed an increase of 59 cases. Anaheim –which has 1710 cases – had an increase of 48.

The daily count for the county is 248 new cases, up from 198 the day before.

Overall, the cumulative cases in the county, reports the Health Care Agency, is now at 8,999 at midday on Tuesday. Of those, 4,185 are judged to be recovered.

However, the OCHCA also reported 12 new deaths, one of the highest numbers since the counting began. The total of decedents is at 233.

One hundred eighty-six persons have tested for COVID-19 since the last count, bringing the total to 187,129.

Three hundred people are now hospitalized, of which 137 are in intensive care units.

The city count of coronavirus cases, after Santa Ana and Anaheim, shows Garden Grove with 520 total (up 16), followed by Huntington Beach with 444 (up six) and Orange with 391 (up nine).

Westminster has 198 (up five) and Stanton has 104 (up two).
