Pedestrian struck and killed

A MAN was killed Wednesday in Huntington Beach when he was struck by an auto while walking at PCH at Brookhurst Street (Shutterstock).

A man struck by a car early Wednesday morning in Huntington Beach died from his injuries, according to police.

The incident took place around 5:11 a.m. on Pacific Coast Highway south of Brookhurst Street.

Arriving officers found the pedestrian in the roadway and not moving. Paramedics arrived and pronounced the man deceased. The coroner indentified the man as Juan Martinez Tovar, 79, of Santa Ana.

The driver of the car, a 59-year-old resident of Newport Beach, remained at the scene. He was cooperative and not injured, said Motor Sgt. Matthew Austin.

The pedestrian was walking in the travel lane of PCH when struck by the vehicle, a 2013 Toyota Matrix. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information of the collision is asked to contact HBPD Traffic Investigator Doug Demetre at (714) 536-5670.
