Keep masks and sanitizers handy

ORANGE COUNTY has hospitalizations and ICU falling, but new cases and deaths rose in Friday’s report from the county health agency (Shutterstock).

Don’t put away that mask and sanitizer bottle.

Despite the increasing numbers of people vaccinated and a generally downward trend in coronavirus numbers, the battle against COVID-19 isn’t won yet.

In Friday’s report from the Orange County Health Agency, two of the four major metrics of the COVID-19 pandemic pointed up. Confirmed new cases rose to 232 from 160 the day before. Deaths increased from 47 to 62.

On the other side, hospitalization due to the virus declined to 339 from 379 and patients being treated in intensive care units for COVID-19 fell from 97 to 91.

To date, cases in Orange County now total 247,372, of which 233,574 are considered recovered. Deaths are at 4,071.

  • Santa Ana: 44,122 (719)
  • Anaheim: 41,010 (724)
  • Garden Grove: 16,197 (316)
  • Orange: 11,576 (213)
  • Fullerton: 11,075 (255)
  • Huntington Beach: 10,309 (184)
  • Irvine: 10,184 (73).
  • Westminster has had 6,969 cases and 155 deaths. Stanton has had 3,125 cases and 50 deaths.
