COVID-19 results in OC mixed

The report on the coronavirus pandemic in Orange County from the county health care agency on Wednesday showed mixed results.

Confirmed new cases declined for the third consecutive day, and deaths dropped from two to zero, but hospitalizations and patients being treated for COVID-19  each showed increases.

Wednesday’s count of new cases was 612, down from 640 on Tuesday. Hospitalizations rose from 461 to 495 and ICU use went from 89 to 96.

To date, Orange County has totaled 272,449 cases, of which 253,667 are considered recovered. Deaths are at 5,152.

Nationally, The New York Times is reporting an 86 percent increase in cases –as tracked over the last 14 days – with a 102 percent rise in deaths. In California, cases are up 60 percent and deaths by 63 percent over a similar period.
