Suspect held in fatal stabbing

A SUSPECT has been arrested in the fatal stabbing of a man in Santa Ana (Shutterstock).

A Santa Ana man was arrested Monday in connection with the stabbing murder of another Santa Ana man.

According to the SAPD, the man arrested is Sergio Gaytan, 42. He is suspected of killing Joany Hernandez, 36. The incident took place around 7:45 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 500 west block of Dyer Road.

Officers found a man with multiple stab wounds to his upper torso. Orange County Fire Authority personnel responded and pronounced the man dead.

During the investigation, a citizen told officers of a possible suspect in the area of 2600 S. Olive St. The man ran from officers and was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

Gaytan was in possession of items belong to the victim and had blood on his clothing, say police. A knife believed to be the murder weapon was found nearby.

After being interviewed by detectives, he was booked for murder. The motive for the motive is said to be unclear.
