The victim and suspect in Tuesday’s homicide and officer-involved shooting in Anaheim have been identified.
According to the APD, the victim is David Erickson, 61, of Anaheim. The suspect is Robert Nelson, 55, of Anaheim.
Police responded to a home in the 2400 block of W. Greenleaf Avenue just before noon on a report of a man being shot. The location is west of Gilbert Street and north of Crescent Avenue.
Arriving officers entered the home and spotted “an apparent homicide victim” (Erickson) but then were confronted by an armed suspect (Nelson).
At least one of the officers fired his gun, and then they backed out of the home to be replaced by Anaheim SWAT officers.
When they entered the home, they found the bodies of two men, one of which had been shot by police. APD detectives are working to determine the possible motive for the homicide and the relationship between the two dead men.
Investigators from the Orange County District Attorney’s office are also conducting an investigation, as is routine with an officer-involved shooting.
