Four local high school boys’ basketball teams play in the CIF-SS semifinal games tonight, and one local boys’ soccer team this afternoon (Tuesday).
All the basketball games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.; the soccer match is at 3 p.m. Basketball finals are Friday.
In Division 2A hoops, Edison will host La Mirada. The Chargers are 26-4 overall and champions of the Surf League. Edison is led by seniors Trey Wilborn and Tyler Hampton. The Matadores are 18-13 and won the Suburban League title. Julien Gomez leads the Mats with a 29-point per-game average.
In Division 4AA, Garden Grove will visit Sunny Hills of Fullerton. The Argonauts are 20-8 overall and won the championship of the Golden West League. They are led by senior center Miguel Ortega. The Lancers are 24-7 and finished second in the Freeway League. They defeated the Argos 67-45 in a tournament game in December
In Division 4A, Western will visit Edgewood High of West Covina. The Pioneers are 17-9 overall and won the Orange League title. The Lions are 25-5 and won the Miramonte League crown.
In Division 5A, La Quinta will visit Riverside Prep. The Aztecs are 19-10 and finished third in the Garden Grove League. The Silver Knights are 17-7 and won the Cross Valley League championship.
Boys’ soccer Division 1 action will have Huntington Beach visiting Servite of Anaheim. The Oilers are 17-2-5 and won the Wave League title. The Friars are 19-2-2 and are champs of the Trinity League.
Three locals on v-ball watch list
A trio of area boys’ volleyball teams has made the CIF-SS watch list.
They are Huntington Beach (Divisions 1 and 2), Edison (Division 3) and Magnolia (Division 6).
