A bill to restrict access to abortion passed the North Carolina state Senate on Thursday, sending the bill to Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper, who has vowed to veto it.
According to The New York Times, the bill was approved on a party line vote, with all 29 Republicans voting in favor and all 20 Democrats against.
Although the governor can veto the bill, the Republican legislature can override the veto if they can get two-thirds support.
If enacted into law, access to abortions would be limited to the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
Four “Proud Boys” convicted of sedition

A Washington, D.C. jury on Thursday found four members of the far-right Proud Boys group guilty of seditious conspiracy for their role in a plot to attack the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
Among them was leader Enrique Tarrio, a former leader of the group. reports the Associated Press. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in a federal prison.
Tarrio has been in custody since he was arrested in March 2022. One of the witnesses in the trial was former vice president Mike Pence.

Sports: Angels win fourth straight
The Los Angeles Angels are on a roll, winning their fourth game in a row on Thursday, beating the St. Louis Cardinals 11-7 in the Gateway City.
With hitting across the lineup –16 hits in all – the Halos built an early 8-2 lead and hung on to sweep the series.
Now 18-14, the team is alone in second place in the American League West, a game back of Texas Rangers, whom the Angels host starting Friday.
Second baseman Luis Rengifo led the hit parade, going 3-for 4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs. Taylor Ward and Matt Thaiss each had three hits.
Griffin Canning (2-0) got the win, despite a rocky outing, giving up six hits and five earned runs in five innings. He walked three batters and struck out three.
The Dodgers (18-13) are idle today and open a series in San Diego on Friday.
Sports: Warriors blow out Lakers
The Golden State Warriors evened their NBA Western Conference Semifinal series at one win each on Thursday by defeating the Los Angeles Lakers 127-100. The visitors from LA led 33-26 after one quarter, but it was all Warriors after that.
Klay Thompson scored 30 points for the winners, follows by Stephen Curry with 20. The Lakers got 23 from LeBron James and 21 from Rui Hachmura. The Dubs shot 50 percent on three-pointers, hitting 21 of 42 attempts.
Game Three is on Saturday and Game Four on Monday.
Weather: A partly cloudy weekend
Now that the rain is behind us, we can look forward to partly cloudy skies in the West Orange County area through the weekend. Friday and Saturday will have daytime highs of 67, with overnight lows of 53 and 54. Sunday will warm a bit to 69 (54) and Monday with see a high of 71 (55) with the return of sunshine.
