An extra-inning victory by the Los Angeles Angels (46-47) on Saturday was extra-exciting and extra-important as the Halos rallied to defeat the Houston Astros 13-12 in 10 innings in Anaheim.
The win not only snapped a six-game losing streak but bounced them back into a tie for third place in the American League West with the Seattle Mariners.
While the Orange County team used four home runs to battle back from a six-run deficit, they also benefited from two misplays by the Astros: a wild pitch that allowed a run to score in the ninth and a throwing error that brought in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th.
A key blow was a three-run game-tying home run by Mike Moustakas in the seventh. Other homers hit by Angels were by Luis Rengifo (his sixth), Zach Neto (seventh), and Shohei Ohtani (33rd).
The win went to closer Carlos Estevez (3-1), who pitched the 10th, walking one batter but striking out the other.
Dodgers win their sixth straight
The streaking Los Angeles Dodgers opened their lead in the National League West with their sixth straight victory Saturday, defeating the New York Mets on the road 5-1.
With the win, the Blue Crew is 53-38 and leads the NLW by two games over the second place Arizona Diamondbacks.
In New York, it was a close 2-1 game going into the ninth inning when the Dodgers scored three times.
Mookie Betts was the hitting star for LAD, batting 4-for-4 including a home run, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored.
Tony Gonsolin had a strong outing, working five innings and yielding just two hits and one earned run. He struck out three and walked one.
The win went to Brusdar Graterol (3-2) in relief.
