Ukraine-Russia war rages on

At least six civilians were killed by Russian military strikes Friday night, according to Ukrainian officials, and eight more people were hurt in attacks Friday and Saturday.

United Press International is also reporting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Kerch Bridge, which links Crimea to Russia, “has to be neutralized.”

He said the span was used to move ammunition to Russian forces in Ukraine. Naval drones from Ukraine hit the bridge on Monday, doing some damage, Russian officials claim.

Heat wave claims 18 lives

EIGHTEEN DEATHS are blamed in the Phoenix area.

The scorching heat that’s hit the Southwest will spread to central parts of the country, according to USA Today.

In the Phoenix metro area, at least 18 people are dead from heat-related conditions, with 69 other fatalities “suspected” of being caused by high temperatures.

Phoenix has had 23 consecutive days of temperatures of 110 degrees or more, and hit 115 degrees on Saturday.

Sports: Dodgers round up the Rangers

Powered by five home runs – two by Freddie Freeman – the Los Angeles Dodgers thumped the Texas Rangers in Arlington.

With the win, the Blue Crew is 57-40 and leads the National League West by four games.

The Los Angeles Angels saw their four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, losing 3-0 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. With the loss, the team is 50-49.

The Halos had the bases loaded with one out in the ninth but Trey Cabbage grounded into a game-ending double play.

Weather: Thermometer climbs

The daytime temperature in our West Orange County area will climb for the next few days, peaking on Wednesday at 89. Sunday should be partly cloudy with a daytime high of 82 and an overnight low of 67. Monday will be mostly sunny and 84 (66). Tuesday will be warmer at 88 (68) with partly cloudy skies, and then Wednesday will be similar, but slightly warmer at 89 (67).
