Shohei Ohtani is back to his home run-hitting ways and so are his Los Angeles Angels teammates as they defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-5 in Anaheim on Sunday.

The win put the Angels at 51-49, good for third place in the American League West Division, and just four games out in the AL Wild Card race.

Ohtani hit his MLB-leading 36th home run in the first inning and the Halos eventually built a 7-1 lead before surviving a four-run outburst by the Pirates in the seventh.

Joining Ohtani in the Angel home run spotlight were Andrew Velazquez (his first of the season) and Luis Rengifo with two (eighth and ninth).

Sunday’s win finished a 6-3 homestand in which they swept the New York Yankees and took two of three from the Bucs.

Starter Tyler Anderson (5-2) started off well, giving up just one run through six innings, but was touched for three more in the seventh.

Carlos Estevez picked up his 23rd save.

The Angels will have Monday off to travel and will start a series in Detroit on Tuesday.

The Los Angeles Dodgers got off to a good start Sunday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, as Max Muncy crushed a grand slam home run in the first inning.

However, that was all the scoring the Blue Crew could do, losing 8-4. They finished their road trip with a 6-3 record and are 57-41, still in first place in the National League West, four games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants (each 54-46).

Emmet Sheehan (3-1) took the loss, giving up eight hits and eight earned runs. He struck out four Rangers and walked five.

The Dodgers will be home Monday to start a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays.
