A federal judge in Arkansas has blocked enforcement of a law threatening librarians and bookstores with criminal prosecution for providing “harmful” materials to minors.

The Associated Press is reporting that a preliminary injunction was issued by U.S. District Judge Timothy L. Brooks against enforcement of the new law, which was to become effective on Tuesday, Aug. 1.

The law had been challenged by a coalition of public library systems as well as the ACLU and the American Booksellers Association.

Trump warns other Republicans

DONALD TRUMP

During a campaign stop in Pennsylvania on Saturday, former president Donald Trump threatened any Republican unwilling to push criminal investigations against Democrats with opposition when they next ran for re-election.

According to The New York Times, he said that members of his party should “get a little bit lower class” and vowed that “Any Republican that doesn’t act on Democratic fraud should be immediately primaried,” referring to the practice of  challenging an incumbent office-holder with an opponent in the primary elections.

Sports: Angels stumble again in Toronto

The Los Angeles Angels series in Toronto was a chance to climb the wild card standings and continue their hot streak. However, it’s not working out that way. The Halos lost for the second time on Saturday, falling 6-1. Their record is 54-51 and while they remain in third place in the American League West, they are now five games back in the AL wild card race.

The sole Angel run came when Luis Rengifo scored from third on a hit batsman, Taylor Ward, who had to come out of the game.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, meanwhile, took on the Cincinnati Reds in Chavez Ravine and had better luck, winning 3-2 to improve to 58-44. They remain in first place in the National League West and lead the San Francisco Giants by three games.
