The contest for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination is down to just two people now that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced on Sunday that he was leaving the race. Still standing are former
president Donald Trump and former UN ambassador Nikki Haley just two days before the New Hampshire primary.
In a video, DeSantis said that it was clear to him that most Republicans wanted Trump and vowed to support him. “May he rest in peace,” Trump said Saturday night. Haley said, “It’s now one fella and one lady left. May the best woman win.”
In Tuesday’s Iowa caucus, DeSantis finished a distant second (21 percent) to Trump (51 percent) with Haley in third at 19 percent. But in the stretch toward the caucus DeSantis’ national poll numbers declined sharply and fund-raising faltered.
It’s Chiefs vs. Ravens; Lions vs. 49ers
The matchups for next Sunday’s NFL conference championship games are set. The Detroit Lions – who defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-23 on Sunday – will take on the San Francisco 49ers – who beat the Green Bay Packers 24-21 on Saturday – in the NFC title game.
The Kansas City Chiefs – who bested the Buffalo Bills 27-24 on Sunday – will play the Baltimore Ravens – winners by 34-10 on Saturday over the Houston Texans – in the AFC championship final.
Weather: One more day of rain
