Two memorial observances of “Black April,” the month in 1975 when Communist forces conquered the  Republic of (South) Vietnam, will be held in the Westminster Civic Center later this month.

Last week the city council approved the two events, both of which will be held at the Sid Goldstein Freedom Park, 14080 All American Way.

The first event is a 21st Year Anniversary of the Vietnam War Memorial/49th Year of Black April Event on Sunday, April 28.

It will held from 9 a.m. to noon, and about 200 people are expected to attend.

The second event is a Black April Memorial Ceremony by the Vietnamese American Federation of Southern California, Coalition of Vietnamese Veteran Associations and Assembly of RVNA Overseas-Southwest Center on Tuesday, April 30 from 5-9 p.m. with an anticipated attendance of 100 people.

Also at the March 27 meeting, the council approved the second reading and adoption of an ordinance regarding the half-cent increase in the sales and transaction tax approved by voters on March 5.
