On Sunday, Mike Trout showed he was still a top-notch player. But his Los Angeles Angels showed that they are not yet a top-notch team.

Trout hit his fourth home run of the young season and stole a base, but the Halos lost 12-2 to the Boston Red Sox (7-3) in Anaheim. With the loss, the Angels are 5-4 and second in the American League West.

The BoSox hit three home runs off Angel starter Chase Silseth over five innings, but the relief corps really opened up the floodgates, yielding nine runs in the final four innings. Jose Suarez was touched for three walks, five hits and five runs over 3.1 innings, ballooning his ERA to 8.68.

Jose Cisneros did worse, giving up two hits and three runs in one-third of an inning.

The Angels will open a three-game home series with the Tampa Bay Rays (5-5) on Monday.

Dodgers fall behind early, lose 8-1

The Chicago Cubs are proving to be a tough opponent for the Los Angeles Dodgers, taking Sunday’s game 8-1 and winning the third game of the three-game series in the Windy City.

With six runs in the first four innings, the Cubs weren’t challenged the rest of the game. The lone run for the Blue Crew came in the top of the eighth when Shohei Ohtani doubled in Mookie Betts.

In the sixth inning, Ohtani tripled to right but was stranded. After a slow start, the former Angel is now batting .320.

The Dodgers move to the Twin Cities to take on the Minnesota Twins (3-4) on Monday.
