A cease-fire plan promoted by the United States to stop the fighting in the Israel-Hamas conflict was approved by the United Nations Security Council. on Monday.
Russia was the only Security Council member abstaining.
U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said that Israel has privately agreed to the terms, but publicly, both combatants have remained silent or resistant.
Israel’s UN ambassador said her nation would continue to use military force until all Israeli hostages were released and Hamas’ “military capabilities are dismantled.”
Over the weekend a military operation by Israeli forces freed four hostages but as many as 200 Palestinians may have been killed.
Trump has pre-sentencing hearing
Using a high-tech special video network, former president Donald Trump was interviewed by a New York probation officer on Monday.
No details were available for the process, which is considered routine, although the electronic venue was not. The pre-sentencing hearing is intended to assist the judge in determining a sentence.
Having been convicted of 34 felonies relating to having falsified legal documents to conceal “hush money” paid to an adult film actress,Trump could be sentenced to prison, or home confinement, a fine or any combination of penalties.
