Former Huntington Beach Mayor Kim Carr got a favorable ruling Tuesday from a Superior Court judge on a lawsuit over the cancellation of the last day of the 2021 Pacific Air Show.
Judge Jonathan Fish ruled that the actions of the mayor qualified as “a discretionary act” when the decision was made to cut the show short because of an oil spill off the Surf City shore.
A separate lawsuit against the City of Huntington Beach was settled for close to $5 million, but the details of the settlement have not been made public.
Stanton council passes city budget
On a 5-0 vote, the Stanton City Council on Tuesday approved the 2024-25 operating and capital budget for the city government.
The budget for all city funds totals $50 million. The budget includes $2.6 million from the general fund’s assigned fund balance.
Income from permitting fees and investment income is expected to be reduced in 2024-25, but revenue from cannabis sales and delivery is expected to increase.
Also, the council voted 5-0 in favor of awarding fireworks sales licenses to Youth Assistance Foundation of Stanton and Boys & Girls Club of Stanton.
Raise the flag in Westminster
A special flag-raising ceremony will be held on Friday at 8 a.m. in the Westminster Civic Center in recognition of Flag Day.
The national colors will be hoisted at the flagpoles in the civic center, near the entrance to the Senior Center.
The civic center is located at 8200 Westminster Blvd. The public is invited.
