Tough new rules to keep the first 2024 presidential debate from turning into a shouting match were revealed  on Saturday.

The 90-minute program on CNN on June 27 will have no opening statements by the candidates, two minutes to answer questions, one-minute rebuttals and replies to rebuttals.

There will be red lights that will flash when candidates have five seconds left to speak and solid red lights when time is up.

The candidates’ microphones will be turned off except when it’s their turn to speak.

The 2020 debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden was marked by raised voices and Trump running over his allotted time.
