Sunday’s planned “tactical pause” in Israel’s incursion into Gaza has been criticized by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The 11-hour humanitarian pause which was to be along the main roads into Gaza, intended to facilitate aid into the war-ravaged area drew criticism from not only Netanyahu but also from a leader of his ruling coalition, who said whoever decided on that pause was “a fool” and should lose their job.
Also, Palestininan health officials claimed that seven Palestinians died in air strikes by Israeli planes attacking two houses in a Gaza refugee camp.
Big “heat dome” roasts wide area
People living in central and southern areas of the U.S. – and eventually into Midwest and Great Lakes regions – are being warned to stay inside and avoid exposure to high temperatures of what’s being termed a “heat dome.”
Trapped air added to high heat will push temperatures as high as the high 90s for several days, and the weather conditions along the Mississippi River Valley could “feel like 100 to 105 degrees” in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Sports: Angels, Dodgers avoid sweeps
Both the Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Dodgers avoided being involved in series sweeps on Sunday, but in different ways.
The Angels, who won the first two games in San Francisco, were hammered by the Giants 13-6 in Oracle Park.
They held an early 2-0 lead, which was quickly overcome by a nine-run fourth inning by the home team. The Anaheimers rallied with four runs in the top of the fourth but that was after they’d fallen behind 13-2.
A highlight for the Halos was Nolan Schanuel’s eighth home run.
The Angels are 28-43 and remain in fourth place in the American League West. They will return to Orange County on Monday to open a series with the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers avoided a sweep by blanking the Kansas City Royals 3-0 at Chavez Ravine.
Tyler Glasgow pitched a seven-inning gem, giving up just three hits. He struck out three batters and walked none. The bullpen held the Royals hitless the rest of the way.
Shohei Ohtani hit two solo home runs to raise his total to 20.
The Blue Crew (44-29, first in the NL West) will travel to Denver to take on the Colorado Rockies on Monday.
Weather: Cooler and then warmer …
Our West Orange County area will get cooler and then warmer for the next few days. Monday will have a daytime high of 73, followed by a nighttime low of 62, followed by 72 (62) on Tuesday and then rise to 75 (61) on Wednesday. The trend continues on Thursday with 76 (62). Skies will be partly cloudy during that time.
