The homelessness problem in Huntington Beach isn’t been solved yet, but efforts to reduce the number of un-housed people in “Surf City USA” appears to be headed in the right direction.
According to the latest 2026 data, the homeless population declined by 17 percent compared to the previous 2024 “Point in Time” count, continuing a trend.
In 2022, the city counted 188 unsheltered people. By 2026 the number dropped to 143.
There’s also a reduction in “sheltered homelessness” as more people were placed in permanent housing through city agencies. Since 2022, 214 persons have exited homelessness.
“Addressing homelessness remains one of the city’s top priorities, and these numbers reflect the communication, hard work and collaboration of our city staff, public safety personnel, service providers and community partners,” said Huntington Beach Mayor Casey McKeon.
