The Los Angeles Dodgers are a good team, but they’re having a bad stretch.
After losing Thursday 5-1 in Philadelphia, they were swept by the Phillies and suffered their fourth consecutive loss. They mustered only five hits and – to add insult to injury – were tagged for a home run (one of three by the home team) by Trea Turner, a former Dodger.
No member of the Blue Crew had more than one hit, and the top of the lineup – Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith and Freddie Freeman – collectively batted 0-for-11and struck out six times.
Aa Nola (11-4) added to his record by pitching six strong innings, giving up four hits and one run. He struck out nine batters and walked two. The tally against him was a fifth-inning homer by Gavin Lux.
The Dodgers are now 55-39 and lead the National League West by seven games. Next up is the start of a series in Detroit on Friday against the Tigers.
Mariners tee off on Angels, 11-0
Opposing batters continue to shell the Los Angeles Angels’ young pitching staff, creating a series of one-sided losses for the team. This one was an 11-0 loss at home to the Seattle Mariners.
On Thursday, the first two Halo pitchers – Jack Kochanowicz and Kenny Rosenberg – were lit up for a total of 14 hits and 11 runs (10 of them earned) in seven innings.
As for the Angels, they collected five hits. In the bottom of the seventh in Anaheim, they loaded the bases but Nolan Schanuel lined out to end the threat.
The Angels (38-55) have now lost seven of nine games in July and remain in fourth place in the American League West. They’ll take on the M’s again on Friday.
