A lot of Americans have been hit hard by the cost of food. But there’s no inflation in the meals for students in the Garden Grove Unified School District.
At Tuesday’s meeting of the GGUSD Board of Education, food service prices were approved, and they call for no changes in the student meal program.
For students, in fact, breakfasts, lunches and other meals are free, and there’s been no meal price increase for students since 2017-2018.
Adults, however, will be seeing a modest increase in the cost of meals. Breakfasts will remain the same ($4.50), but lunches for adults will rise a quarter from $6.25 to $6.50.
A la carte food items, second meals and specialty meals will range in cost from $1 to $15 for students, adults and non-GGUSD students. These are items such as milk, water, juice, chocolate chip cookies, bags of chips, extra breakfast or lunch meals, sandwiches and salads.
Tuesday’s meeting was the board’s first meeting of the 2024-2025 school year. New administrators from the district office level to elementary school vice principals were introduced to the board and the public.
The next meeting of the board is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 3. The GGUSD serves most of Garden Grove as well as parts of Anaheim, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Santa Ana, Stanton and Westminster.
