Tackling two issues related to housing, the Stanton City Council held public hearings on Tuesday night and took action.

On a 4-0 vote – with Mayor David Shawver absent – the council gave approval to an urgency ordinance that would extend a temporary moratorium on any expansion, enlargement or alteration of existing “public lodging, lodging facility or lodging business” for six months pending  a study and preparation of an update of the municipal code.

According to a staff report there’s been a “substantial amount of crime that has occurred at various public lodging uses within the city.”

Also – on another 4-0 vote – the council approved for first hearing an ordinance to prohibit “short-term rentals” citywide and “bed and breakfast” businesses in residential and mixed-use overlay zones.
