Federal govt. spending bill loses; a potential shutdown looms

A new plan to head off a shutdown of the federal government proposed by President-elect Donald Trump was defeated on Thursday

According to the Associated Press, the revised proposed would keep federal government operations funded for three more months and lift the threat of stopping U.S. non-emergency operations

But nearly three dozen Republicans joined nearly all the Democrats in the House of Representatives to derail the bill after the original bipartisan legislation was opposed by Trump. The final was 174 in favor and 235 against.

Aanother attempt to reach a deal by Friday’s deadline is expected.

Sports: College Football Playoffs to start

The first 12-team College Football playoff’s opening round is Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, seventh-ranked Notre Dame will take on 10th-ranked Indiana. on Saturday, eighth-ranked Ohio State will face ninth-ranked Tennessee.

A busy Thursday night for local LA-OC pro teams

The NFL Thursday night game will have the Los Angeles Chargers hosting the Denver Broncos tonight.
In NBA play, the Los Angeles Lakers will visit the Sacramento Kings and the Los Angeles Clippers will be in Dallas to play the Mavericks.

In NHL action, the Los Angeles Kings are in Philadelphia to take on the Flyers.
On Friday, the Anaheim Ducks are home at the Honda Center, hosting the Colorado Avalanche.

Weather: We’re back to the Sixties

That spell of warm weather in our West Orange County cities is passing and we’re back in the 60s. The forecast for Friday is for a daytime high of 69 with an overnight low of 48 under partly cloudy skies.

The daytime high will drop to 65 on Saturday 64 on Sunday and 65 on Monday all over partly cloudy skies. There will be a 10 percent chance of rain from Saturday through Monday.
