Two judicial wins for Trump

President Donald Trump won two judicial victories on Thursday as his lawyers prevailed in cases on the mass layoff of federal workers and a halt of funding to a private refugee resettlement program.

According to the Associated Press, a federal court rejected a suit on firing thousands of federal employees because it was brought in federal district court rather than making a claim under federal employment law.

Another federal judge rejected a request for a temporary restraining order that would have restored the funding of a project for the settlement of migrants organized by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

On another legal front, unions have filed a lawsuit alleging that the mass firing of probationary federal employees was “one of the most massive employment frauds in the history of this country.”

The American Federation of Government Employees is alleging that the administration unlawfully used a “standardized termination notice” claiming performance issues for all 6,000 workers fired.

Kash Patel narrowly chosen as FBI chief

By a 51-49 vote, the U.S. Senate confirmed Kash Patel as the next director of the FBI on Thursday.

All Democrats – along the Republican Senators Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska –voted against Patel while the other GOP members of the Senate voted in favor.

Patel has been critical of the FBI and has already forced out several top bureau officials, according to the AP. He has advocated for an emphasis on law enforcement duties rather than intelligence gathering.

Additionally, he has requested the names of the the thousands of agents who helped investigate the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
