Trump’s poll numbers down

The first 100 days of a president’s term in The White House are often referred to as an early review of his (or, someday, her) time in office.

For Donald Trump, made famous for his performance on the reality TV show “The Apprentice,” the reviews – as measured by polling – have not pointed to a hit.

The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs survey released Sunday showed that four in 10 Americans surveyed agreed that Trump has been a “terrible” president this time around, with three in 10 saying he’s been “great” or “good.”

The NBC News Poll had 45 percent of those surveyed voicing approval of Trump’s performance with 55 percent disapproving.

Other polls are from Washington Post-ABC which has him at 39 percent approval and with CNN at 41 percent. Rasmussen Reports’ daily tracking report was the most encouraging for the president’s supporters with 47 percent approval and 51 percent disapproval.

Decision on Ukraine war talks soon?

Will President Donald Trump decide this week whether to continue trying to broker a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia or will he choose to walk away?

The New York Times reported on Sunday that Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested on NBC’s “Meet the Press” program that “we have to make a determination about whether this is an endeavor that we want to continue to be involved in or if it’s time to sort of focus on some other issues that are equally if not more important in some cases.”

He added: “But we want to see it happen … We’re close, but we’re not close enough.”

One major point of contention is the status of Crimea, seized from Ukraine in 2014. Russia wants official acceptance of that, while Ukraine is opposed.

Lakers’ backs are back to the wall

With their 116-113 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, the Minnesota Timberwolves pushed the visitors to the brink of elimination in the first round of the NBA West Playoffs.

The T-Wolves now lead three games to one, with the series going back to LA on Wednesday.

Sunday’s game was close, with the Lakers leading into the final minutes when the home team took the lead on a three-point play, stole the in-bounds pass and saw Austin Reaves miss a trey that would have sent the game into overtime.

For the Lakers, Luka Doncic scored 38 points, followed by LeBron James with 27 points.
