The municipal budget and the June 10 election on the fate of the city’s library system stand out in the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting of the Huntington Beach City Council meeting,
A public hearing will be held on the adoption of the city’s budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year. As submitted, it will require the appropriation and transfer of $4.8 million from reserves to be balanced.
Also on the agenda is an “affirmation for public library and assets” put forth by three council members – Chad Williams, Don Kennedy and Butch Twining.
The proposed resolution is to affirm that “the public library will not be sold and that books will not be banned.”
Thousands of Huntington Beach residents have already cast ballots on two voter-initiated measures – A and B – which would eliminate a “parent-community review board” that critics claim is a form of censorship, and a ban on the privatization of – not the sale of – the city’s library system.
The final day of voting is Tuesday, June 10.
The council will meet in a closed session at 4:30 p.m. and in a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in the lower level theater of the Central Library at 7111 Talbert Ave. (at Goldenwest Street).
