Leave Tehran, urges Trump

EXPLOSIONS in Tehran from attacks on Friday (Wikipedia).

People living in the Iranian capital Tehran were urged to leave the city on Monday by President Donald Trump.
USA Today is reporting that the president posted on his social media platform Truth Social (caps his) “IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON … Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!”

Israeli missiles slammed into the city, including when one strike hit the state media building, driving the newscaster from her desk in the middle of her report.

Trump is urging Iran to accept a U.S. proposed deal. So is French President Emmanuel Macron, who said, “There is an offer that has been made, especially to have a cease-fire and to initiate broader discussions. And I think this is a very good thing.”

The crisis developed as Israel fears that Iran is close to developing a nuclear weapon. A wide war in the region is possible, observers say.

Minnesota killings could mean death penalty

Although state law in Minnesota has no provision for imposing the death penalty, the suspect in the shootings of two lawmakers and their spouses – two of them fatally – could be subject to capital punishment, if convicted.

According the United Press International, Vance Boelter, 57, accused of the shootings, has been arrested on federal murder charges, which do carry a death penalty as a possible punishment.

Bail has been set at $5 million. Five federal charges have been lodged against Boelter, including two counts of second degree murder and attempted murder in the second degree.

U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson said the shootings were political assassinations.

Angels edge Yankees; Shohei back on mound

Nolan Schanuel doubled home Christian Moore in the top of the 11th inning with the only run of the game as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the New York Yankees 1-0 on Monday night.

That run ended a game that began with outstanding starts by both pitchers. Jose Soriano threw seven innings for the Halos and gave up six hits. He struck out six Yankees and walked one.

Clarke Schmidt went 7.2 innings for the home team, yielding four hits. He struck out three Angels and walked one.
With the win, the Angels are 34-37 (still in fourth place in the American League West) and snapped a three-game losing streak.

Shohei Ohtani’s brief return to pitching on Monday showed there’s yet something missing there, but his hitting is back.
In the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 6-2 victory over the San Diego Padres, he pitched one inning, giving up two hits and one earned run. But his bat more than made up for it. He doubled and singled, driving in two runs and bringing his average back to .300.

With the win, the Blue is is 44-29 and atop the National League West.
