Dodgers keep lead, Halos fall

THE DODGERS and Angels both lose.

Sometimes in a pennant race you need a little help from your friends … or rivals.

Patrick Bailey hit a walkoff grand slam home run in the bottom of the 10th inning Friday to give the San Francisco Giants a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The win improves the Giants’ wild card chances, but the San Diego Padres’ 4-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies keeps the Blue Crew’s National League West lead at 2.5 games.

On a night when the Dodgers could only muster four hits (the Giants had three), the top performance was by Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who pitched seven one-hit innings and struck out 10 batters.

The Los Angels Angels continued to skid, losing 2-1 to the Seattle Mariners.

That helped the M’s move into a tie with the Houston Astros for the American League West lead.

The Halos (69-79) got four hits and batted one-for-five with runners in scoring position.

The best news for the Angels was from Yusei Kikuchi, who worked six innings, yielding four hits and one run.

They will play two more games in Seattle, on Saturday and Sunday.
