A possible attempted kidnapping took place in Westminster last week and a suspect is being sought.
According to Commander Andy Stowers, the incident took place around 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday in the area of Brookhurst Street and Bishop Place.
The victim, a girl, was leaving school on foot and walked past a parked vehicle with a male seated inside. He asked for directions and she spoke to him, the suspect “exposed his genitals” to the girl.
The male then exited his vehicle and urged the girl several times to get into his vehicle and blocked her path to keep her from walking away. At one point, the suspect did make physical contact with the girl before she was able to escape, running eastbound towards a woman and her child.
The suspect then drove away in his vehicle westbound toward Bushard Street.
The suspect is described as a male, about 5-feet, 7-inches tall, and 200 lbs. wearing a white and blue short sleeve button-down shirt and dark pants. He was also wearing a face mask that covered his mouth and nose and had printed dinosaurs on it. He was driving an “older” model gray sedan.
Police have been unable to locate the woman the victim ran toward and is seeking the public’s help in finding her.
Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident is asked to call Detective J. Barnes at (714) 548-3784 or the WPD Watch Commander at (1714) 548-3767.
