Kratom, nitrous bans on agenda

An ordinance that would ban the sale and distribution of kratom products as well as nitrous oxide products within city limits is scheduled to be introduced at Tuesday’s meeting of the Garden Grove City Council.

Kratom is a “supplement” that has been connected to a variety of health problems, including death.
Possible ill effects are addiction, hallucinations, seizures, liver toxicity, and worse.

Its popularity comes from its reputation not only in treating pains, but also its stimulant effects of “increased alertness, boosted physical energy, talkativeness and a more social behavior,” according to drugs.com.

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas,” is a mild sedative often used in dentistry. But it can be abused; people inhaling nitrous oxide can suffer from a variety of side effects, including dizziness, nausea, excessive sweating and hallucinations.

Huntington Beach and Stanton have already banned such products for sale to the general public.
Also on Tuesday, City Manager Lisa Kim will give an update on the Civic Center Revitalization Project, which includes a new police facility and parking structure, as well as a new park located at Euclid Street and Acacia Parkway

The council meets at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.
