hould the Westminster City Council get a raise? Should that raise be more than double what they’re making now?

When the council meets on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in its chambers on 8200 Westminster Blvd., one of the items on the agenda will be an ordinance increasing the monthly sum paid to council members and the mayor.

Under current law, a city with a population as large as 90,000 may pay its councilmembers up to $1,900 a month. Their present monthly salary is $850.50. The mayor makes that amount, plus an extra $105 a month.

That’s what’s proposed in this ordinance.: $1,900 for counclmembers monthly and $2500 for the mayor.

The proposal for a raise came from Councilman NamQuan Nguyen (District 4). If approved and enacted, the added cost for salary and benefits would be $77,551 annually.

If approved, it would go into effect after the 2026 election.
