THE DRIVER in a fatal DUI accident in Westminster faces manslaughter charges (Shutterstock).

The man arrested for his role in being drunk when allegedly striking a pedestrian with his vehicle on a street in Westminster is now facing manslaughter charges.

According to WPD Commander Michel Harvey, the suspect is Flavio Isaias Davalos, 29, of Westminster. The incident took place on Wednesday in the area of Beach Boulevard and 15th Street.

Around 11:30 p.m., police responded to a report of an unconscious man lying on the ground of a parking lot. Arriving officers found the man with “significant injuries consistent with having been struck with a vehicle.
Orange County Fire Authority firefighter paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

The involved vehicle was located and Davalos was detained a short distance away. Due to evidence collected at the scene, along with “objective signs and symptoms of impairment,” investigators concluded that he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The WPD Traffic Bureau is investigating the collision and anyone who witnessed the incident or who has related information is asked to call Inspector Lin at (714) 548-3758.
