The hiring of an outside firm to study the policies and procedures of the Fourth of July Parade and Celebration will be considered at Monday night’s meeting of the Huntington Beach City Council.

HB color logo letters3Mayor Jim Katapodis and Councilman Mike Posey are proposing that the city appropriate $15,000 to look at event and the impact of elevated parking parking fees during the celebration.

An estimated 500,000 people come to Surf City during the event, of which the parade is the highlight. The parade dates back to 1904 and the celebration that surrounds it has grown greatly in recent years. In a memo to the council, Katapodis and Posey advocated for the review what they termed “a large and increasingly complex public event.”

The council meets at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 2000 Main St. in Huntington Beach.
