Air traffic noise group is proposed

A GROUP to work on ways to curb noise from Long Beach and other area airports is on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting of the Huntington Beach City Council.

What? Speak up, I can’t hear you! There’s a jet flying right over my house!

In response to citizen complaints about airplane noise from flights to and from Long Beach and other airports, the creation of an Airport Traffic Noise Working Group is on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting of the Huntington Beach City Council.

The meeting is set for Tuesday instead of the customary Monday because of the Martin Luther King holiday. The council meets in its chambers at the Civic Center at 2000 Main St. (at Yorktown Avenue) at 6 p.m.

Council members Patrick Brenden and Barbara Delgleize are proposing the group, which would be led by two council members with support from city staff and experts with a first meeting set to be held on or around Jan. 28. The goal of a conducting a community meeting within 90 days is also in the proposal.

City leaders have already met with representatives from Newport Beach, a city that was successful in establishing a flight curfew, noise limits and curbs on the number of passengers and departures at John Wayne Airport.
