A fistful of potentially hot topics will be on the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting of the Westminster City Council.

They include:

  • a draft code of ethics and conduct for elected and appointed officials
  • a review of council policy regarding recognition and proclamations
  • a request for a report from a council subcommittee on campaign contributions and term limits
  • a request for Vietnamese language interpreters at city council meetings.

In recent weeks, council members have been involved in heated exchanges about the first three issues, and instances of public comments in untranslated Vietnamese have raised questions as well.

Some observers have suggested that the council is divided on a variety of issues and in terms of personalities as well.

At the last meeting, the question of whether the mayor had the right to issue proclamations led to a lengthy, emotional back-and-forth between Councilman Tai Do and Mayor Tri Ta, a sequence that lasted an hour.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. in its chambers at 8200 Westminster Blvd.
