Decision on Willowick lease is postponed

WILLOWICK GOLF COURSE in Santa Ana is on land owned by the City of Garden Grove.

A decision on selecting a master developer for the Willowick Golf Course was postponed a week by the Garden Grove City Council Tuesday night.

A vote on a master lease agreement with MWWillowick, LLC (a creation of McWhinney Real Estate Services) of Colorado to plan for the development of the 101.5-acre site which is owned by Garden Grove but located within Santa Ana city limits was scheduled, but the council decided to take the matter up at a council meeting on Dec. 17.

The delay was attributed to a need to get more details into the proposed agreement.

Despite the postponement of a vote, a packed council chamber yielded several dozen speakers who criticized Garden Grove’s actions and called for use of the land for open space and affordable housing.

Also on Tuesday night, the council:

  • approved John O’Neill (Council District 2) as the new mayor pro tempore, succeeding Stephanie Klopfenstein, and
  • approved the hiring of two new community service officers and a senior program specialist within the police department in support of an expanded parking enforcement program.
