The Los Angeles Angels put together two walks, two stolen bases and a wild pitch to score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning Monday and defeat the Chicago White Sox 2-1.
The inning began with Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani each drawing a walk. The Halos then pulled off a double steal, putting runners are second and third with one out.
White Sox pitcher Aaron Bummer then threw a wild pitch in the dirt and Trout raced home with the winning run. With the victory, the Angels are 43-37, tied for second place in the American League West, five games back of the first place Texas Rangers.
Earlier in the game, Ohtani got the team’s first run on a home run in the fourth, his 26th of the season. He now leads Major League Baseball in home runs and RBIs (62).
Reid Detmers pitched a gem, going seven innings and yielding just two hits and one earned run. He stuck out 10 batters and walked two. Closer Carlos Estevez (2-1) pitched the ninth and got the win.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have a day off and will open a series with the Colorado Rockies in Denver on Wednesday.
