What was once controversial has become routine.

At its meeting on Tuesday night, the Garden Grove City Council voted 7-0 to adopt a proclamation declaring June to be LGBTQ Month in the city.

Approval of the LGBTQ (an acronym for “Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning) Month means that the landmark clock tower in Village Green Park at Main and Euclid streets will be illuminated with “rainbow” lights and decorated with a “Pride” banner.

Also on Tuesday night the council heard a presentation from the “Visit Anaheim” organization which works with the Garden Grove Tourism Improvement District to bring tourism – and therefore “bed tax”revenue – to the city.

Additionally, the council approved the second reading and adoption of an ordinance changing the zoning of a 0.88-acre parcel on Newhope Street, north of Garden  Grove Boulevard to allow for the development of a 15-unit residential detached condominium project.

Also approved was a cooperative agreement with the Orange County Transportation Authority for participation in the Harbor Boulevard Innovative Corridor Project intended to improve safety and the “travel experience” from the Santa Ana Bus Base to the Fullerton Transportation Center.

The next meeting of the city council will be on Tuesday, June 11.
