Alec Jones’ assets to be liquidated, orders judge

ALEC JONES, founder of Info Wars (Wikipedia).

The personal assets of Alex Jones, a conspiracy theorist notorious for claiming that the mass killings at Sandy Hill Elementary School in Connecticut in 2012 were faked, have been ordered liquidated by a federal judge.

Federal Judge Christopher Lopez approved turning a personal bankruptcy proceeding into a liquidation, meaning the selling off of much of his personal possessions, except for his home.

He owes $1.5 billion in defamation damages to the families of those killed at Sandy Hook.

Jones is the founder of Infowars, a website and broadcast operation which specialized in bizarre conspiracy theories, including the theory that Hillary Clinton and others were involved in a pedophlia ring in the non-existent basement of a Washington, D.C. pizzeria.

“Bump stock” ban overturned

A federal rule on what constitutes a machine gun was overturned on Friday by the U.S. Supreme Court on a 6-3 vote.

The rule related to so-called “bump stock” accessories to semiautomatic weapons in which the wielder could use it to “bump” the trigger to increase the rate of fire.

The majority opinion – written by Justice Clarence Thomas – was the bump stock does not constitute a true machine gun, the private ownership of which is prohibited by federal law.

The regulation was originally enacted in 2017 after a mass shooting at a music festival in Las Vegas.

Angels hang on, Dodgers rally to win

The Los Angeles Dodgers (43-28, first in the NL West) defeated the Kansas City Royals at Chavez Ravine 4-3 on Friday night. Fifth inning home runs by Miguel Rojas and Chris Taylor tied the game at 3-all and Freddie Freeman’s eighth inning single scored Mookie Betts for what turned out to be the winning run.

Starter Gavin Stone pitched seven strong innings, giving up four hits and three runs. He struck out three batters and walked two. Dan Hudson (3-1) got the winning in relief.

The Los Angeles Angels’ (27-42, fourth in the AL West) bullpen nearly cost the team another victory, but the Halos hung on in the ninth to defeat the San Francisco Giants 8-6 at Oracle Park. The Halos built an early 7-1 lead, but the Giants rallied with five runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Mickey Moniak had two doubles and a triple and Zack Neto hit his ninth homer of the season in the win. Tyler Anderson (6-6) pitched 5.1 innings, giving up five hits and one run. He struck out five batters but walked five.

Middle reliever Andy Comber had another meltdown, lasting one-third of an inning while giving up three hits and four runs, but Carlos Estevez slammed the door in the ninth to get his 11th save.
