A crime spree that police say was conducted by two men posing as law enforcement officers extended beyond the original incidents in Anaheim and Westminster and also included two in Garden Grove.

According to Detective Sgt. Willie Holloway of the GGPD, the incidents in Garden Grove occurred in the 12500 block of Garden Grove Boulevard and the 10100 block of Chapman Avenue.

On June 8, a victim was approached by two men posing as police officers on Garden Grove Boulevard. They persuaded the victim to enter their vehicle, where they took his phone and wallet (including money). The victim, a 19-year-old Garden Grove resident, was able to identify the suspects’ vehicle as a blue SUV.

On June 18, another victim reported an incident in which he was approached by two men posing as immigration agents on Chapman Avenue. The suspects tried to steal his credit card by threatening him with deportation. The victim was able to retrieve his card and the suspects left in a blue SUV.

The suspects in some cases appeared to target people they suspected of being undocumented aliens.

After matching up information from incidents across the several cities, police arrested Alexandru Vasile, 19, a Romanian and Laurentiu Bacenau, 20, also a Romanian. They are facing charges of robbery and kidnapping.

Police urge members of the public to come forward if they have been a victim of similar crimes and call (714) 741-5704.
