Pause proposed on substance abuse treatment centers

A PROPOSED moratorium on new substance abuse treatment centers goes before the Stanton City Council on Tuesday (Shutterstock).

An urgency interim ordinance that would establish a moratorium on the establishment  of certain new medical services goes before the Stanton City Council when it meets on Tuesday, July 9.

According to a staff report, the city has received inquiries about establishing facilities and clinics to treat people with substance abuse disorder by using medicines to alleviate the symptoms of “withdrawal.”

Such businesses, the reports states, can be of service but also can be associated with “negative impacts … if not properly regulated.”

The ordinance would temporarily prohibit such medical service uses until the city has time to study the issue and “develop appropriate regulations.”

The council will meet in Stanton City Hall, 7800 Katella Ave., with a special closed session at 5:30 p.m. and a joint regular session at 6:30 p,m.

  1. In the time you pause this, you could save many people (parents, children, loved ones)from death, job loss, criminal charges, etc.) You have no more negative impact by having treatments centers like that than you already have in your community. There is no way the neg could outweigh the positive.
    Come on.
