If it seems that graffiti is disappearing from walls and buildings across Garden Grove faster than ever, you’re not wrong.
On Tuesday night, the city council will take up an expansion for the city’s efforts based on the success of a pilot program.
The council will be asked to approve an amendment to an agreement with Graffiti Protective Coatings, Inc. worth $482,427 – a total increase of $255,000.
What the city will get is two operating graffiti removal trucks seven days a week for not just public property but also private property facing public streets. Typically the program had two such trucks, one on duty six days a week and one three days a week, focusing on the public right-of-way.
A pilot program that ran from June 24 to July 23 of this year with three trucks (two on duty seven days a week and one three days a week) produced impressive results including about 98 percent of all reported graffiti cleaned within 24 hours and a reduction of code enforcement cases generated for graffiti on public property.
Also on the agenda will be second reading and adoption of an ordinance which will clear the way for eight pool tables to be installed at The Wharf restaurant on Main Street.
The city council will meet in its chambers at 11300 Stanford Ave. at 6:30 p.m.
