Approval for the demolition of a problematic vacant building will be considered by the Stanton City Council when it meets on Tuesday.

The council may take action on a proposal to immediately level one of the detached garages at 8930 Pacific Avenue, an area where city is seeking to replace vacant and distressed properties with new residences.

That building was seriously damaged by a fire believed to have been started by transients. Now those who had been trespassing and breaking into that structure are now begun doing the same time into 8940 Pacific Avenue, another neighboring vacant four-flex building.

Numerous complaints have been lodged at City Hall, and one staff member sent to investigate was threatened by a man “brandishing a wine bottle as a weapon.”

The cost of the demolition will be $96,000, to be paid to Interior Demolition. Inc.
Also on the agenda is the lease of three more solar-powered camera trailers to deter the demand for prostitution and the illegal sale of sex. Two such units are already in place, The rental cost of the additional units is $13,950.

The council meets in City Hall with a special closed session at 5:30 p.m. with the joint regular session at 6:30 p.m. at 7800 Katella Ave.
