ABRAHAM LINCOLN will be present – sort of – at “Civil War Days” this weekend in Central Park in Huntington Beach (Tribune photo).
Some say that in the South, the Civil War is never over.
In Huntington Beach, the War Between the States returns – in re-enactment form – every year in the Central Park.
The 31st annual “Civil War Days” will be staged this Saturday and Sunday. This free “living history event” will feature Civil War “battles,” an opportunity to meet President Abraham Lincoln and Union General Ulysses Grant and more.
Battles are scheduled for Saturday at 1:30 and 4:30 p.m and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
There will be food, music, shops and talks.
This year there will be new programs on the U.S Colored Troops and African American service, Civil War logistics, Reconstruction and Native American service, politics and conflicts during the war.
The event will open at 10 a.m. each day behind the Central Library at Talbert Avenue and Goldenwest Street. For more information, go to HBhistory.org/Civilwar .
