The U.S. Supreme Court has scheduled arguments in May over the Trump Administration’s contention that “birthright citizenship” can be restricted.
The Associated Press is reporting that an executive order by President Donald Trump ending that right for children born in the United States to parents who are illegally in the United States is the point of contention.
Arguments are set for May 15.
The 14th Amendment to the Constitution was passed by Congress in 1866 after the end of the Civil War and ratified by the states in 1868.
So far, three federal courts have halted the effect of Trump’s order, one calling it “blatantly unconstitutional.” The argument against the long-understood intention of the amendment is that children of non-citizens are “not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.”
Two dead, six hurt in FSU shooting
At least two people are dead and another six wounded when a man opened fire at Florida State University in Tallahassee.
According to The New York Times, the gunman was shot by police and taken into custody. He’s been identified as Phoenix Ikner, 20, the son of a female former sheriff’s deputy.
Ikner is a currently enrolled student at FSU and is reported to have used his mother’s personal hand gun in the shooting.
Angels lose, skid to third place
With a 5-3 loss to the Texas Rangers on Thursday night, the Los Angeles Angels suffered their fourth consecutive loss and slipped into third place in the American League West at 9-9.
The Rangers, winners of three straight, ascend into first place at 12-7.
The Angels, who were home run-bashing heroes in their run into first place, had another power failure on Thursday. They only collected five hits and just one extra base hit. Luis Rengifo was the key Angel batter with a two-run single.
After a long period on the road, the Halos will hope to end their skid on Friday when they open a home stand at the Big A against the San Francisco Giants.
Ty Anderson (1-0) will make the start for the Angels; Logan Webb (2-0) will go for the Giants.
THE DODGERS (14-6) were off Thursday and travel to Texas on Friday to take on the Rangers.

The forecast for Friday calls for a chilly daytime high of 63 and an overnight low of 52 with cloudy skies. But on Saturday things warm up all the way to 73 (54) with sunny skies. The next few days are similar with Sunday at 74 (54) with partly cloudy skies and Monday at 72 (54) with morning clouds and afternoon sun.

The 14th Amendment says:
All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.
If one accepts the premise of supposed Originalism/Textualism, as the majority of the court claims to, there is no argument here. Period. Full stop.
